What is a normal blood level?

Blood test results can vary depending on the specific test being conducted and the laboratory's reference ranges.

Reference ranges are established based on the population's average values, and they help determine what is considered normal or within a healthy range.

However, it's important to note that reference ranges may vary slightly between laboratories.

What is a normal blood level?

Here are some examples of normal blood level ranges for common blood tests:

Complete Blood Count (CBC):

  • Red Blood Cells (RBC): 4.5 to 5.5 million cells per microliter (mcL) for men; 4.0 to 5.0 million cells/mcL for women.
  • White Blood Cells (WBC): 4,500 to 11,000 cells/mcL.
  • Hemoglobin: 13.5 to 17.5 grams per deciliter (g/dL) for men; 12.0 to 15.5 g/dL for women.
  • Platelets: 150,000 to 450,000/mcL.

Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP):

  • Glucose: 70 to 99 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL).
  • Sodium: 135 to 145 milliequivalents per liter (mEq/L).
  • Potassium: 3.5 to 5.0 mEq/L.
  • Calcium: 8.5 to 10.5 mg/dL.
  • Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN): 8 to 20 mg/dL.
  • Creatinine: 0.7 to 1.3 mg/dL.

Lipid Profile:

  • Total Cholesterol: Less than 200 mg/dL.
  • HDL Cholesterol (good cholesterol): 40 mg/dL or higher for men; 50 mg/dL or higher for women.
  • LDL Cholesterol (bad cholesterol): Less than 100 mg/dL.
  • Triglycerides: Less than 150 mg/dL.

Blood Glucose Test:

  • Fasting Blood Glucose: 70 to 99 mg/dL.
  • Random Blood Glucose: Less than 200 mg/dL.

Liver Function Tests (LFTs):

  • ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase): 7 to 56 units per liter (U/L).
  • AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase): 8 to 48 U/L.
  • ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase): 45 to 115 U/L.
  • Bilirubin: Less than 1.2 mg/dL.
  • Albumin: 3.4 to 5.4 g/dL.

It's important to remember that these ranges are general guidelines, and individual factors, such as age, sex, and overall health, can influence what is considered normal for a person.

To interpret blood test results accurately, it is best to consult with a healthcare professional who can consider the specific context and provide appropriate guidance.
